Composer Study - Francois Couperin

Francois Couperin

"Jerusalem, return the Lord your God."

Francois Couperin (1668 - 1733) was a French composer in the Baroque time period. He learned to play the organ from his father. In 1689, he married Marie-Anne Ansault and began to publish music for organ and harpsichord. In 1717, he was appointed as court musician to King Louis XIV. Along with writing music like the song, Alarm Clock (Le Reveil Matin), he wrote the book L'Art de Toucher le Clavecin. The Art of Harpsichord Playing shares techniques on finger, touch, and ornamentation.
