Composer Study - Hildegard von Bingen

Hildegard von Bingen

"There is the music of Heaven in all things."

Hildegard von Bingen was a German Benedictine nun, mystic, writer, and composer of the Medieval time period. She had visions, composed music for her convent's religious services, and wrote books on natural history (Physica), medicine (Causes and Cures) and even a cookbook. Her music drama, Ordo Virtutum, is the first play of its kind, showing how virtue can triumph over the devil. her song, Nunc Aperuit Nobis, shows off its monophonic line (one line of melody).
