Modest Mussorgsky (1839 - 1881) was a Russian composer of the Romantic Period. He is known was one of The Five, five prominent Russian composers who collaborated to create a distinct national style of Russian music. His expressive music was often inspired by Russian history and folklore. His most famous pieces are The Pictures at an Exhibition and Night on Bald Mountain (which is featured in Disney's Fantasia).
