Piano Assignment Book

After 15+ years of teaching piano, I have combined TONS resources into one easy to use assignment book.

The book contains a place to mark the student name and year (great for record keeping - especially for homeschooling students who might need to show “proof” of music education to an evaluator).

Goals & Reasons - at the beginning of the year, set goals with the student (use their goals and desires to help craft their lessons). Also write down their reasons for taking lessons (even if the reason is “mom is making me” - it’s honest, you need to know their true reasons in order to properly motivate throughout the year; plus it’s neat to see students develop new reasons for taking lessons as the years go on)

Favorite Songs - keep track of songs they really liked to help prepare for recitals and performances.

The Practice W’s - discuss the who/what/when/where/why and how of practicing to help build solid habits.

Practice Plan - write down the plan for when and how to practice - bring parents into this discussion.

Recital pieces - keep track of pieces they have performed in recitals.

Playing by Ear checklist - figure out 7 different songs by ear. Set it to the appropriate level - single melody, tonic and dominant chords, chords.

Scales checklist - work on scales, track progress, learn lots of theory (whole/half step patterns, ear training, circle of fifths)

Assignment pages - write their assignments, students can mark off their practice times. Enough for 52 weeks
